Fox mulling second year of 'Terra Nova'
Jason OMara stars in Fox drama Terra Nova, which wrapped its first season Monday and awaits word on the possible soph season.
The finish from the first season of "Terra Nova" leaves a cliffhanger which has nothing related to the plot: Will Fox renew the drama series?"Nova" ended its run Monday in typically solid but unimpressive fashion, calculating a couple.2 rating/6 be part of grown ups and 7.two million audiences overall. That place it above ABC and NBC but slightly below its season average (2.6 demo rating and 7.8 million).Individuals are respectable amounts although not always adequate because of the costly production costs behind the dino spectacle and also the pedigree of executive producers Steven Spielberg and Peter Chernin. twentieth century Fox Television may be the studio behind the 13-episode run, that was never meant to earn a back-nine order. One indication of "Terra Nova" landing another 13 episodes is whether or not Fox will get the choices around the skein's lead stars. But even when that occurs before year's finish, it does not a lot guarantee a renewal because it does buy Fox additional time to come to a decision that might be made as late because the finish of The month of january, which seems the deadline to find the elaborate production in operation.Rankings are not even close to the only real element in Fox's decision on "Nova." Additionally to distribution sales in overseas marketplaces and DVD or digital revenues, the network will even consider that "Nova" boasts among the bigger percentage increases among dramas in "live-plus-seven" Digital recording device data -- from the 2.6 to some 3.7 in 18-49.This is not the only real drama whose fate is going to be mulled by Fox executives within the holidays, like a decision is anticipated soon on the possible ninth season for Universal Television's "House."Related: Rankings: Modest finish for 'Terra Nova' Contact Andrew Wallenstein at andrew.wallenstein@variety.com

This is when the Kardashians can be found in! Coppola's film in regards to the brothers and sisters would permit her to focus on a few things she's proven an early on affection for: stars (duh) and brothers and sisters (see 'The Virgin Suicides'). Kourtney and Kim can also enjoy themselves, with Khloe experiencing an uncredited and line-free role just like a background extra. 3. 'Bridalplasty' A young bride (Emma Watson), infatuated while using reality show 'Bridalplasty,' becomes passionate about the notion that marriage is just another kind of character mutilation. That perspective is increased because her husband (Zac Efron) can be a music video director with little fascination with his wife's existence. 4. 'The Spin Crowd' A disillusioned veteran pr guy (Bill Murray) continues tour along with his new client, an indie rock-band within the cusp of ghettoized fame. Karaoke plays most inside the third act. 5. 'E! Social media money trail
The social media phenom has done more than create multiple outlets for showbiz talent seeking to build fan base and auds. It's also allowed a growing number of celebs to tap into burgeoning revenue streams from social networks, virtual worlds and online games through branded merchandise. There are two aspects to monetization via social media: The new social media mavens are being paid to tout products online; more speculatively, they also invest in start-up companies.Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg, T-Pain, RuPaul, Tila Tequila, Paris Hilton and 50 Cent are among those taking in a piece of what's estimated by investment bank Piper Jaffray to be a $3.75 billion global market this year in virtual goods, predicted to expand to $6 billion by 2013."It's a new product category with high profit margins, no inventory problems, and complete control of items," says Dan Jansen, founder and CEO of Virtual Greats, a company that specializes in "virtual goods," which says it reps a $4 billion global market.Virtual Greats' platform brings copyrighted material into social networks and casual games, and connects fans to celebrities, artists, intellecutal propertry holders and brands. "We create branded virtual goods that we sell in micro-transactions, which average about $2.50 apiece, but can go up much higher if they have functionality, such as an NBA basketball that dribbles," says Jansen. The majority of the goods -- for which celebrities and brands reap about 30% of the revenue after 10% sales costs and splits with social media sites and companies like Virtual Greats -- are items for avatars such as Elvis Presley's blue suede shoes or Snoop Dogg's Dobermans, used in virtual worlds like WeeWorld and Zwinky.Jansen says Virtual Greats has sold about $400,000 worth of Snoop-branded merchandise in the past two years. Some say such revenue is found money, requiring little time or effort, and that includes influential celebrities who are paid to tweet about products, reportedly at up to $10,000 a tweet.Beverly Hills-based Adly is a venture-funded company that matches brands like NBC, Sony and American Airlines with influential names with large Twitter followings, like Hilton and 50 Cent, to connect them directly with consumers.Another emerging trend: high-profile celebs investing in tech-sector start-ups. Leonardo DiCaprio recently invested in Mobli, an Israel-based visual media platform that lets users follow channels that display topic-driven photos. Justin Timberlake took an ownership stake in MySpace and started making strategic and creative decisions for the company. He also invested in early-stage augmented reality company Dekko and Stipple, which allows people to label, share and advertise on photos.Ashton Kutcher has his own investment fund, A Grade, which has put money into about a dozen startups, including Foursquare, Fashism and Flipboard, while Lady Gaga invested in Backplane, a social networking site for celebrities. Those who want to similarly invest in early-stage social media and tech companies can enter as angel investors -- and be prepared to lose it all. "From a wealth management asset allocation perspective, unless someone wants to devote significant time to pursue opportunities, and do this as a side job, it's really difficult," says Andreas Stavropoulos, managing director of Draper Fisher Jurvetson, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm.In order to spread around the risk by investing in multiple companies, investors can try to get into well-managed VC funds rather than attempting to cherry-pick the next Facebook or Groupon, but even that's not easy. The funds are only raised every two or three years and most of the participants are financial institutions rather than high net worth individuals. But like other situations where clout opens doors, if you know someone and can bring something to the table, you're more apt to get in -- with a caveat: "Typically these funds are oversubscribed," says Stavropoulos. "You might want a $5 million stake, and you only get $3 million. That's it."SHOWBIZ WEALTH MANAGEMENT REPORTHelping hand lifts bizzers | Segal gets kudo as biz manager | No boom, no bust | How to avoid the downside of Westside wealth | Social media money trail Contact the Variety newsroom at news@variety.com

First Released: November 30, 2011 11:09 AM EST Credit: Access Hollywood Caption Dish Of Salt: Jeremy Renner Tom Cruise Is Courageous In Mission: Impossible - Ghost ProtocolLOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Jeremy Renner credits his Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol co-star, Tom Cruise, with helping him prepare to defend myself against the role of some other giant screen action star Jason Bourne. Tom really set a higher bar in how to overcome a large action movie such as this, so he would be a great kind of mentor and champion and paved a very great path that i can physically prepare, Jeremy told AccessHollywood.coms Laura Saltman, when requested about overtaking the Bourne franchise, because he marketed the 4th installment within the Mission: Impossible series. However when it involves Ghost Protocol, Tom Cruise seems outdoors the mobile phone industry's highest building the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and Jeremy was amazed through the film stars stunt-achieving prowess. I believe he may come with an iron stomach or something like that, hes courageous, Jeremy stated. I dont know if it is fearlessness as [almost as much ast] it's curiosity. I type of view it like possibilities I shouldn't lay during the night like, Why didnt I actually do that or why didnt I attempt that? You're able to make a move like swing around a building like Tom does, youd be remiss to avoid that if you feel you could do this it. Theres [a] certain courage and fearlessness that accompany that, but how much of an amazing chance to complete stuff that many people in existence dont reach try, he added. Towards the qualities
'We Need to Discuss Kevin''Senna''Shame''Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy'There's a familiar sense of the 2010 British Independent Film Honours, while using nominations centered by past individuals who win by companies for instance Warp, Working Title, See-Saw and Studiocanal that have a effective history within the ceremony. All five candidates for top film -- "We must Discuss Kevin," "Senna," "Shame," "Mess Tailor Soldier Spy" and "Tyrannosaur" -- are directed by people who have a BIFA around the mantelpiece.Lynne Ramsay, Asif Kapadia and Steve McQueen won BIFAs for debut director, while Tomas Alfredson needed the foreign film prize and Paddy Considine won in short.Bill Wheatley, who replaces Kapadia alongside another four in this year's director list for his sophomore pic "Kill List," is yet another previous champion of BIFA's Raindance Award for his rookie effort "Lower Terrace."The nominees for debut director aren't exactly fresh-faced unknowns. Considine, Take advantage of Fiennes for "Coriolanus," Richard Ayoade for "Submarine," Joe Cornish for "Attack the Block" and John Michael McDonagh for "The Guard" are in place talents, either as artists, authors or both, who moved to the feature director's chair the first time this year. But lest the BIFAs be billed with losing their edge and merely rounding up a cosy cabal of usual suspects, several eminent past individuals who win are actually overlooked inside the cold, with no room for Andrea Arnold's "Wuthering Levels," Terence Davies' "The Dark Blue Sea," Ken Loach's "Route Irish" or Michael Winterbottom's "Trishna."Really, it might be contended the familiarity from the year's nominees is not a symbol of conservatism, but merely that British indie filmmaking is ageing, while using best talent obtaining a greater consistency of support to create their careers in addition to their audience. Probably the BIFAs have simply developed while using industry. There's a good amount of boldness and originality of those nominees -- yet their risktaking has furthermore been paid out by getting a good and surprising quantity of commercial success."Mess," "Senna," "Kevin" and "Guard" are the year's most important breakthrough hits within the U.K. box office. "Shame" has not been released, but reactions within the London Film Festival declare that it's set for the similar result."Attack the Block" fell missing its high anticipation, while "Kill List" and "Tyrannosaur" both not successful to discover a significant cinema audiences, but among the other nominees, "Jane Eyre," "Submarine" and doc "TT3D: Closer to the advantageInch all released healthy box office returns. However, there's no room within the BIFAs for your year's most amazing indie success story, "The Inbetweeners Movie," which made $74 million inside the U.K. and met with critical acclaim. This can be a striking omission, thinking about that it absolutely was created starting with-time feature authors together with a debut director, precisely the kind of talent the BIFAs were created 14 in the past to market. Probably the committee -- made up of 70 industry pros -- felt the TV spinoff did not merit recognition just like a work of cinema.Measuring only a few of the curious decision one of the 2010 nominations. There's questioning in the reasoning behind the omission of Kapadia within the director list, for example, or perhaps the "Mess Tailor" authors within the script nods. Such anomalies are compelling some BIFA affiliates to request when the purchasing process needs searching at, to make certain it remains rigorous enough to assist the growing status in the honours.TOP IN NOMS "Shame"Seven noms: film, director (Steve McQueen), script (Abi Morgan, McQueen), actor (Michael Fassbender), supporting actress (Carey Mulligan), technical achievement (editor Joe Master, d.p. Who Should Replace Brett Ratner?
After Brett Ratner’s spectacular self-inflicted demise as Oscarcast producer, the Academy gets down to business finding a replacement to join Don Mischer in picking up the pieces. I’ve heard speculation ranging from Scott Sanders (who was eyed before Ratner got the nod) to previous Oscar producers Joe Roth, Adam Shankman and Laurence Mark. Harvey Weinstein offered an out of the box suggestion last night. Weinstein, who has sat through plenty of Oscarcasts, suggested drafting Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels, and getting Tina Fey involved in the writing. The idea is they would make Eddie Murphy comfortable and give the broadcast a strong comic focus. I’m not sure Michaels or Fey could spare the time away from their weekly show obligations in NY, though. Who should produce the show?

TMZ reports that the judge responded by saying, “She’s supposed to be an actress, from what I hear.” Lohan’s bail was set at $100,000. The judge told the actress that she must complete 16 hours of community service at the county coroner’s office before her November 2 probation violation hearing to avoid further punishment. Scarlett Johansson was too sexy for Fincher's Dragon Tattoo
Director David Fincher says Scarlett Johansson was too sexy to play Lisbeth Salander in his remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo."The thing with Scarlett is, you can't wait for her to take her clothes off," Fincher said.To put that into context (and to make it sound a bit less weird), we think Fincher was trying to say that the character has to be boyish and vulnerable before she shows her other side.Let's try that again..."Look, we saw some amazing people. Scarlett Johansson was great. It was a great audition, I'm telling you. But the thing with Scarlett is, you can't wait for her to take her clothes off," Fincher told Vogue."Salander should be like E.T.," he added. When he hides under the table and he grabs the Reese's Pieces, you love him! It has to be like that."OK, he made it weird again.

Last Man Standing's Nancy Travis: I Get to Be a Buffoon Too
Tim Allen, Nancy Travis Tim Allen's new ABC sitcom Last Man Standing may present the former Home Improvement star as yet another dopey sitcom husband, but Allen's co-star Nancy Travis says that she gets to be dopey too.Fall TV: Get the lowdown on this season's must-see new shows"They are unlike a traditional sitcom couple, where he's the buffoon and she's the patient wife," Travis tells TVGuide.com. "We toss that ball back and forth. There are episodes where [I'm] just fumbling around and he comes off as the voice of reason. They're both kind of trying to find their way."Allen plays Mike Baxter, the director of marketing for an outdoor sporting goods store. When Mike's boss (Hector Elizondo) puts him in charge of focusing on the company's Internet sales - and his wife Vanessa (Travis) gets promoted in her job - Mike finds himself spending more time at home with his three daughters: single mom Kristin (Alexandra Krosney), dim, self-centered teen Mandy (Molly Ephraim) and tomboy Eve (Kaitlyn Dever).Travis, who also recurred in the first few episodes of the CW's freshman drama Hart of Dixie, insists that it's the family dynamic that will emerge as the heart of the show. "It's not going to be as black and white as 'a guy surrounded by girls,'" Travis says. "Part of launching a show is you need a hook or gimmick, and that happens to be the gimmick. But we've shot eight episodes and what is evolving is a show about a real family in the middle of this country where both parents are working. ... It's not your cookie-cutter family - it's a family that is just trying to get through the day and make it work."Photo timeline: The emasculation of men on TVThe setup will certainly feel a bit familiar to viewers of Allen's previous ABC sitcom, Home Improvement. While Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor used to grunt and scream for "more power" on Tool Time, Mike takes to YouTube to berate a generation of young men who can't change their own tires."Tim is still going to have that point of view of a guy's guy and [come] at it from a more traditional place of 'Men were meant to have guns!'" Travis says. "But he's going to have counterpoints to that point of view within the family. ... Tim is invested in making every scene work and not just going for the obvious joke. He really wants this show to be rooted in something that is real."As for her character, Travis says Vanessa will deal with everything from being called out for greeting trick-or-treaters in a too-sexy pirate costume to coming to grips with being a young grandmother. Meanwhile, the youngest daughter will feel disconnected because of Vanessa's long work hours while the eldest laments losing the life she planned to have after getting pregnant.Last Man Standing: Is Tim Allen's character a buffoon?"We're just trying to find the nuances and break away from the stock ideas and the broad jokes," Travis says."We want to know what makes this family tick and make it really relatable. And I think once you unearth all of that, you find a really funny show."Last Man Standing premieres Tuesday at 8/7c on ABC.

Century of Birthing (Siglo ng pagluluwal)
A Sine Olivia Pilipinas presentation. Produced by Lav Diaz, Ricky Gallardo. Directed, written, edited by Lav Diaz. With: Angel Aquino, Perry Dizon, Joel Torre, Hazel Orencio, Angeli Bayani, Betty Uy-Regala, Roeder Camanag. (Tagalog, English dialogue)Filipino maestro Lav Diaz continues to push, prod and reinvent his personal yet universal cinema with "Century of Birthing." A relatively short film for Diaz at two minutes shy of six hours, this saga follows the parallel stories of a procrastinating filmmaker artist (Perry Dizon) and a woman in a quasi-Christian cult (Angel Aquino), serving up ideas on matters of belief, creation and freedom that ultimately skew in a more hopeful direction than some of the helmer's recent epics. Brave fests will sign up. What sets "Century of Birthing" apart from Diaz's other films about the Filipino national consciousness is how he incorporates his impending feature "Woman of Wind" into the narrative. In the context of this fiction, that film is the work of Homer (Dizon), shown editing the low-res video images on his computer. Crucially, however, Homer isn't meant to be seen as Diaz's doppelganger, and easy comparisons with Fellini's alter ego Guido in "8 1/2" would be simplistic and wrong-headed. There are two obvious differences: Homer appears to have never had, and never will have, a feature in the Venice and Toronto film festivals, where "Century of Birthing" launched its international fest circuit travels; and Homer can't seem to finish what he starts, the polar opposite of the highly productive and prolific Diaz. Homer is befriended and somewhat hounded by a female poet friend (Betty Uy-Regala), whose pretentiousness makes Homer's stated belief in the power of cinema sound comparatively modest. As he sweats over "Woman of Wind," "Birthing" also focuses on Sister Angela (Aquino), one of a tight circle of women around cult leader Father Tiburcio (Joel Torre). Diaz films their various religious rites, one of which provides the pic's opening scene, without irony or intended ridicule; while Father Tiburcio turns out to be a vain madman and harsh autocrat, the pic observes the group with a striking neutrality that allows viewers to arrive at their own conclusions. More pointedly, a nosey photographer (Roeder Camanag) has weaseled his way onto the cult's property (this is far from Waco, Texas, and there's nary a guard or gun in sight), and the film uses him to ask uncomfortable questions about the use of the camera to depict human beings, and how close the observer can rightfully get to the observed. More than in any previous Diaz film, the presence of the camera becomes a rather dark symbol of the uses and abuses of cinema, as does Homer's editing suite. Ever so gradually, these opposite worlds eventually intersect in a surprising and satisfying denouement set in the countryside under an enormous sky. Once Homer decides to get away from his rather shoddy studio, and encounters some characters outside of the city, the film shifts to large tableaux and time-bending sequences that turn the characters into mythic characters a la Diaz's "Death in the Land of Encantos." The DCP projection in Toronto was marred by an especially raw, fairly unmixed soundtrack, with much intrusive outside and ambient sound muddying the audio; filmmakers noted this will be rectified in future screenings. Diaz's black-and-white lensing is well composed, with his signature wide-angle long shots firmly intact; while nothing in Diaz's movies ever moves terribly fast, the individual shots here are generally more briefly held than those in his previous work. Unconfirmed reports circulated in Toronto that Diaz is planning an eight-hour version, though the narrative seems quite complete and fully rounded at nearly six.Camera (B&W, DV), Diaz; music, Diaz; production designer, Perry Dizon, Hazel Orencio, Dante Perez; sound (stereo), Diaz. Contagion (Warner Bros) Week 4 [2,744 Theaters] Friday $1.4M, Estimated Weekend $4.7M, Estimated Cume $64.4M FRIDAY 1 PM: These are very early numbers based on matinees. Therefore the order could change dramatically by tonight. My sources say that according to noon averages, this is simply a snapshot of where the North American box office is right now: 1. The #1 film at this time is Sony’s Courageous which is running 55% ahead of where Fireproof was at this time of day. (Fireproof went on to gross $6.8m for its first weekend. Estimates are for Courageous to earn $5M Friday and a weekend in the mid-teens. Not surprising that it’s trending in front right now because faith-based movies engender a lot of pre-sales as church groups bus to the theaters. 2. Right now it’s too close to call for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place as Alcon Entertainment/Warner Bros’ Dolphin Tale, Sony Pictures’ Moneyball, and Disney’s Lion King 3 are all ranking close together. 5. Summit’s 50/50 is estimated at $3M for Friday with a weekend of $9M. Note that this film is R-rated so matinees are not a good barometer of its strength at the box office. 6. Based on noon averages, Universal’s Dream House is trending toward a Friday estimated gross of $4M with a weekend of $11M if the box office picks up significantly tonight as predicted. 7. Fox’s What’s Your Number is a tough call this early. It could go to $3M today and $9M this weekend.Watch The Hangover 2 Free

Oscar Index: The Pitt and the Pendulum
A week after its stirring season debut, Oscar Index returns to the scene with the latest scientifically observed developments in the 2011-12 awards race. Indeed, Movieline’s Institute for the Advanced Study of Kudos Forensics has issued the results from its latest zeitgeist biopsy, and they look… inconclusive. Naturally! It’s September. Nevertheless, ready as so many prognosticators seem to be to issue grains of salt with their preliminary awards analysis, it hasn’t slowed the torrent of data rocketing forth from the cognoscenti. Let’s get a look at the latest: [Click the graphs for full-size images.] The Leading 10: 1. War Horse 2. The Descendants 3. Moneyball 4. The Ides of March 5. The Artist 6. J. Edgar 7. The Help 8. Midnight in Paris 9. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy 10. The Tree of Life Outsiders: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Iron Lady, A Dangerous Method Last week’s Index almost directly coincided with word that the Academy was revising its rules for campaigning. To wit, no star-studded receptions! No Twitter badmouthing! Limited Q&A’s! “We want to do everything we can to put the focus back on the work,” AMPAS COO Ric Robertson told Steve Pond. Right. I really wish this meant great things for the masterful Melancholia and every deserving candidate on Sasha Stone’s “For Your Consideration” list, but it’s another toothless bit of Academy regulation that obviously can’t even take effect until after nominations are announced — by which time it’s too late for “the work” that’s already been buried by critics’ awards, top-10 lists, and the Golden Globes, whose HFPA administrators never encountered an awards-season gravy boat they didn’t nearly drown in. Furthermore, as Scott Feinberg observes, this just drives the active campaigning underground — not that there weren’t already inky Weinsteinian currents of power and influence traversing the awards substrata, but this rule change just means that voters shouldn’t be surprised when they order a pizza and someone from The Artist delivers it. Or, even likelier, someone from The Artist delivers a pizza that a voter didn’t order. (“Je suis vraiment dsol! Vous n’avez pas command une pizza? Eh bien, tenez quand mme, avec les hommages de monsieur Harvey Weinstein et L’Artiste,” etc. etc.) Of course this doesn’t slow War Horse’s brisk gallop through the dawn-speckled Oscar landscape. (There’s even a new, corresponding dawn-speckled poster. Well played, DreamWorks!) The latest editions of both Gold Derby and Gurus O’Gold have the year-end Spielberg entry reigning over the likes of the upsurging Descendants and even more upsurging Moneyball, whose opening-weekend windfall complemented its impressive Academy screening and far-flung social-media approbation. (Bret Easton Ellis and Jerry Seinfeld seemed especially jazzed in this week’s edition of Twit Wit.) The aforementioned Artist also enjoyed a boost from the likes of Stone, who persuasively reminded us all: And then there’s The Artist. The Weinstein gem is the snake in the grass, as they say, driven home by a conversation I had with David Poland. […] Some are wondering if it will even get nominated — it’s time to put those thoughts to bed. The film that has been carried through strongly from Cannes, Telluride and Toronto is The Artist and it will be a very strong force to be reckoned with. The Artist has it all - it is a movie about movies. It is a movie that is the kind of movie audiences turned to during the Depression to feel better about their own lives. “The trick,” said Poland, “is whether the movie can make any money.” Unlike the 1920s, getting audiences to pay for a silent, black-and-white movie seems like a daunting task. “Y a quelqu’un qui a command une pizza?” Ahem. Also of note: Gregory Ellwood’s pronouncement that Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, like War Horse, is the other present-day Best Picture frontrunner sight unseen (“Hanks, Bullock, Daldry, Rudin, a boy loses his father during 9/11. Until it isn’t, it is”), and the awesome, awesome, awesome new, extended trailer for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. “There are two things that Oscar voters adore,” writes Tom O’Neil. “1) overdue, cool directors with edgy new films and 2) movies based upon books that have a fanatical following.” The latter is most definitely true, and may also benefit Extremely Loud (based on the bestseller by Jonathan Safran Foer). But there’s a third thing that Oscar voters adore as well: Heart-squeezing war movies directed by Steven Spielberg. That’s War Horse’s royal flush to the others’ two pair — or at least that’s how it looks on paper. The Leading 5: 1. Steven Spielberg, War Horse 2. Alexander Payne, The Descendants 3. Clint Eastwood, J. Edgar 4. Michel Hazanavicius, The Artist 5. George Clooney, The Ides of March Outsiders: David Fincher, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo; Stephen Daldry, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close; Bennett Miller, Moneyball; Woody Allen, Midnight in Paris; Tomas Alfredson, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy; Tate Taylor, The Help; David Cronenberg, A Dangerous Method Taking the data from the Best Picture races and entering it into the Director-race algorithm, our Kudos Forensics researchers came up with the graph above. I think it’s mostly accurate, if only because Ides of March slipped a bit and Fincher and Daldry have that awards-darling mojo that keeps them ranking over a guy like Miller — Moneyball’s ascendancy notwithstanding. Clooney is clearly the filmmaker in the most danger of tumbling from the competition, with Ides slowing a bit behind War Horse and Descendants and Michel Hazanavicius whipping up pizzas in the Weinstein kitchen enjoying a nice boost from the pundit ranks.Watch Transformers 3 Dark Of The Moon For Free

Juan in the Dead (Juan p los Muertos)
A La Zanfona Producciones and Producciones p la 5ta Avenida production. (Worldwide sales: Latinofusion, Jalisco, Mexico.) Produced by Gervasio Iglesias, Inti Herrera. Executive producers, Iglesias, Herrera, Claudia Calvino. Directed, put together by Alejandro Brugues. With: Alexis Dias p Villegas, Jorge Molina, Andrea Duro, Andros Perugorria, Jazz Vila, Eliecer Ramirez.A great title, a novel setting and several remarkably blunt digs at Castro's Cuban land of non-chance aren't enough to be able to save "Juan in the Dead" from like a lowbrow zombie comedy that mostly goes where plenty of others have gone before. Written and directed by Alejandro Brugues ("Personal Possessions"), this The nation-Cuba co-production scores a few laughs, nevertheless the weak script's scant narrative drive and crude humor might be best appropriate for that undiscriminating. Nonetheless, pic should obtain a reasonable volume of offshore deals for several formats, with distribs in many areas signing or settling after its Toronto preem. Fortysomething Havana slacker Juan (Alexis Dias p Villegas) is certainly an agreeable ne'er-do-well whose wife and child left him for eco-friendly pastures abroad way back when. He and constantly horny dim-bulb friend Lazaro (Jorge Molina) scrape by through variably legal odd jobs including fishing after they catch a ravenous zombie, their curious truth is no more than a shrugged "Let's not tell anybody relevant for this.In . It's everyone's business very quickly, though, becoming an undead epidemic begins decimating the city's population soon after that. Inside the screenplay's most amusing stroke, government government physiques and media immediately insist the marauders are essentially "dissidents" bent on undermining the communist symptom in the behest from the certain evil empire just up north. Their sticking compared to that party line, no matter how dire things get, is certainly an inspired running gag subversive nods to Cuba's constantly broken-lower infrastructure making-do citizenry may also be ideal for some chuckles. Juan susses an infrequent private business opening being snapped up inside the general chaos, creating themselves, Lazaro and latter's lanky boy (Andros Perugorria) just like a zombie cleanup crew while using motto "We kill your loved ones people." Pushing their strategies by as partners are shrill neighborhood tranny La China (Jazz Vila) and her friend El Primo (Eliecer Ramirez), a massive muscleman who faints to start of blood stream. Also joining, although unwillingly, is Juan's now-grown daughter, Camila (Andrea Duro), whose holiday to visit Grandmother remains extended indefinitely with the crisis. Fairly plotless hijinks ensue, with periodic good lines then one great little setpiece (a unique mass-zombie beheading) outweighed by homophobic and otherwise puerile jokes and routine splatstick. Clearly this isn't Noel Coward, but Brugues may have specific slightly greater there's precious little wit, originality or film style even attempted here, even though vitality remains midway decent high. Perfs and packaging are sufficient, with CGI effects different from capable of subpar.Camera (color), Carles Gusi editor, Mercedes Cantero music, Sergio Valdes production designer, Derubin Jacome costume designer, Esther Vaquero appear, Daniel p Zayas effects supervisor, Juan Carlos Sanchez visual effects supervisor, Juan Ventura makeup effects, Cristian Perez Jauregui assistant director, Olga Sanchez casting, Libia Batista. Trailer: Twilight's Peter Facinelli is a Pickpocket with Panache in Loosies
Peter Facinelli, the elder Twilight statesman at age 37, wrote, produced, and stars in the new movie Loosies, the story of a tricky pickpocket who discovers that his ex-girlfriend (Jaimie Alexander) is pregnant just as he finds himself on the lam. It costars Michael Madsen and Vincent Gallo, which should make you jolt an eyebrow. Let’s see if Facinelli can make thievery look cool in the movie’s new trailer. Catch Me if You Can-type protagonists are inherently fascinating, but the supporting cast is bothering me most here. While Facinelli seems committed to the caper craziness, Jaimie Alexander seems (so far) pretty uninspired as his annoyed paramour. In fact, her storyline seems pretty uninspired. I’ll watch for the Lance Burton-style pocketbook disappearances, but I’m leery of the less-then-magical comedic elements here. But: Vincent Gallo! Verdict: Sticky fingers and shticky zingers. Check out the trailer for Peter Facinelli’s first official film ‘Loosies’ [TeamTwilight]

Dish Network joins Hulu putting in a bid fray
Satcaster Dish Network is probably the firms that will go into the first-round of putting in a bid for streaming service Hulu, based on sources. Some reviews have dedicated to the foursome of Google, Amazon . com, Yahoo and DirecTV, the Englewood, Colo.-based Dish is about the candidate of individuals expected to invest in Hulu by Hulu's proprietors. That Dish has an interest in Hulu is not entirely surprising considering the fact that the satellite service apparently examined the venture's financials a minimum of last month. But the organization has since faded in the area of forecasted suitors despite being greatly in the overall game. A spokesperson for Dish rejected comment. Hulu's proprietors expect to carry on to area offers with the finish of the week, with reviews of the hard stop on August. 24 overstating that which was always a loose deadline. Others this is not on the candidate can always make offers for the organization possessed by News Corp., Wally Disney Co., NBCUniversal and Providence Equity Partners. Should Dish have the ability to snap up Hulu, it might mark the continuation of the amazing multibillion-dollar investing spree in the last 12 several weeks which has incorporated Blockbuster, DBSD The United States and TerreStar Systems. With Hulu likely to fetch around $2 billion, a Dish purchase would represent an remarkable outlay although not one sporadic using the company's goals. Since walking in as Boss for founder Charlie Ergen captured, Frederick Clayton has signaled his intent to supply some competition to Netflix by utilizing Blockbuster like a vehicle to get in to the streaming-content business. Clayton has additionally indicated he could still make more purchases. Getting Hulu and Blockbuster in one place would considerably improve Dish's prospects in dealing with Netflix, though with 25 million customers, the Los Gatos, Calif.-based company has a good enough lead to not sweat too abundantly. Coincidentally or otherwise, Dish may be the only distributor that News Corp.'s Fox has registered that enables customer to obtain authenticated use of primetime series on Fox.com and Hulu the next day of their original airdate. By August. 15, non-Dish subs need to wait eight days after airdate to see Fox programs online. Speculation regarding DirecTV had the satellite service pursuing Hulu simply to counter Dish's intent to get involved with streaming via Blockbuster. A speaker for Hulu rejected to comment. Early Edition: Skinny Jonah Hill Joins the 'Neighborhood,' Clive Barker Angry Over New 'Hellraiser,' More
Shake, rattle and roll, East Coasters. Wake up and welcome to the world of temblors. Hollywood, of course, is used to earthquakes ... earthquakes of all kinds, from those that roll the ground to those created by our stars, producers, directors and writers. But as for Tuesday night's news, well, there wasn't much that was earthshaking. Read on. A recently slimmed-down Jonah Hill (he lost 30 pounds for '21 Jump Street') is in talks to join Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Rosemarie DeWitt in the Akiva Schaffer-directed 'Neighborhood Watch.' The sci-fi comedy centers around a suburban "neighborhood watch" group -- actually a front for dads to get away from their families for male-bonding -- that gets in over its head when it uncovers a plot to destroy the world. Hill would play Vaughn's sidekick. 'Neighborhood Watch' is being prepped for a 2013 release. [The Hollywood Reporter] Some people shouldn't be allowed to have movie cameras. Case in point, the filmmakers who created 'Hellraiser: Revelations,' a found footage sequel produced by Dimension Films. The film is the latest in the Clive Barker Hellraiser series, but the author had nothing to do with it (it's credited as being "Inspired by Clive Barker's Horror Classic"). In fact, Barker Tweeted: "Hello, my friends. I want to put on record that the flic out there using the word Hellraiser is no fuckin' child of mine. I have nothing to do with the fuckin' thing. If they claim its from the mind of Clive Barker, it's a lie. It's not even from my butt-hole." Based on the trailer below, we may have the leading candidate for worst film of the year. Check it out and let us know what you think.
